Description

Flute solo work with piano accompaniment is mostly about the flute player learning to listen very carefully to the ensemble sound, to facilitate improvement in one’s intonation and rhythmical togetherness, and perhaps most importantly, the dynamic and tonal balance within the ensemble effect.

This piece for flute solo and piano is a journey to the top of a mountain peak. The modulations and key changes attempt to capture the changing visual terrain as one climbs upward, as well as our changing emotions from energised excitement to joy and fulfilment at reaching the summit, and then the happy, peaceful and weary descent at the end of the day.

Feel the story as you play. Pay close attention to the dynamics to create the emotion within the story. Shape the modulations with good control of tempo changes (eg bars 42-45). Applying dynamics and shaping phrases well is no easy task for the flute player, who must consider many technical elements, such as articulations, breath support, tapering phrase ends with lower lip positioning especially on longer notes.

The downloadable zip files for these flute solos with piano accompaniment, contain a pdf master score for the solo flute and the piano part, an individual flute solo pdf extract, an mp3 audio of the master score (flute & piano), as well as an mp3 flute solo backing track with only the piano accompaniment to assist practice.
