Description
The inspiration for this advanced piano solo stems from my fixation as a 10 year old boy on a 1960s Cat Stevens pop song ‘Matthew and Son’. Something about the repetitive descending 4 note chorus melody totally consumed my very uneducated musical consciousness. Much later on, as my musical education proceeded, the appeal of the expanding intervals in this four note tune became obvious – a 2nd, followed by a 3rd, then a 4th. And so the piano solo gradually developed, always with reference to this simple but intriguing melody. It has a mix of classical, jazz swing, and contemporary elements which should appeal to most pianists. Enjoy!
