Description
For the young piano student, this piece is a great exercise in how to play staccato on repeated notes using different fingers while adjusting the weighting of each note to create the dynamic, and maintaining firmness in the last joint of each finger – no easy task for the beginner. At the same time the LH staccato triads must not overpower the singing RH melody, especially in the ‘forte’ sections. Bars 6 to 9 offer the student some early understanding of chromatic scale fingering. Keep the rhythms strong and forceful, the tempo even and quick right to the last RH cross-over bass note. The RH first beat accents can help to bring out the sometimes awkward and jerky movements of these frantic puppets.
