Oh Birther – Aramaic Lord’s Prayer

Description

A 2020 NEW RELEASE

‘Oh Birther’ was inspired by my recent discovery of the ‘Aramaic Lord’s Prayer’. It is believed to be closer to the actual prayer prayed by Jesus in its’ true translation from the original Aramaic language that was spoken in that part of the world some two thousand years ago. For me, the language is so much more beautiful and engaging, and importantly for today’s context, is expressive of gender equality (‘Father-Mother of the Cosmos’), which is often lacking in the many patriarchal leaning spiritual texts of most religions.

This hymn like vocal work for solo soprano or tenor presents the perfect opportunity for the vocalist to develop a beautifully focused tone, with control needed to taper the phrase ends with a delicate vibrato that is not overdone. For the accompanist, Db major always feel good under the fingers – a great key to get familiar with. As a musical work, it should be reflective of that personal and inner space that only sincere prayer to a higher spiritual power can begin to comprehend. Enjoy its’ very personal meditative space.

The work is presently being recorded by a talented Melbourne soprano Megan Wilson. The sample audio will be posted here as soon as available.
